Full Name Central de Recursos Microbianos do Instituto de Biociências da UNESP
Institution Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP
Comment The Central of Microbial Resources (CMR-UNESP) was created in 2006 in the Microbiology Laboratory (LAM) allocated into the Center for the Study of Social Insects (CEIS), UNESP campus of Rio Claro. The collection is institutionally recognized according to the Ordinance of the Institute of Biosciences of the São Paulo State University (IB/UNESP) No. 4/2013. The CRM-UNESP's mission is to act as a Biological Resources Centre (BRC), as defined by the OECD Best Practice Guidelines for BRCs (OECD 2007). Currently, the CMR-UNESP holds approximately 5,100 cultures, consisting of 4000 yeast and filamentous fungi derived from samples of nests of ants and environments impacted with petroleum and its products, 1,000 fungi associated with marine environments (coastal Antarctica and Brazil), and about 100 bacteria used as reference strains. The number of cultures is rapidly growing due to the many biodiversity and bioprospecting studies embarked upon researchers affiliated with this culture collection.
