The Culture Collection of Hospital-Acquired Bacteria (CCBH) is located at the Hospital Infection Research Laboratory (LAPIH) that performs bacteriological, epidemiological and molecular analyses of bacterial strains from hospital infections.
The bacterial cultures preserved at CCBH come from hospital outbreaks from several regions of Brazil and represent a collection of great importance for society in general. There are about 15.000 strains of multiple drug resistant (MDR) Gram negative bacteria such as: Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii and Enterobacter aerogenes, isolated from septicemia, meningitis and pneumonia cases among others. These microorganisms are not commercially available, they are only available for research at public, private, national and international institutions.
The collection performs several services such as maintenance, preservation, deposit and distribution of strains, besides taxonomic characterization and genotypic analysis.
The CCBH has FINEP, FAPERJ and CNPq support. In adittion, CCBH has been accredited as Trusted Depository Collection of sample of Genetic Heritage Component by Genetic Heritage Management Council/ Ministry of Environment, under the number 022/2010 as a sub-collection of the CCBS.
